About Barbara King

Barbara King received her M.A. in Sociology from Southern Illinois University. After completing her doctoral course work in Political Science, she began teaching at Georgia Southern University in 2004. With her multi-disciplinary background, she has taught for the departments of Political Science, Sociology, and International Studies. Ms. King has taught for the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology since 2013. Her past research has focused on deviant behavior, criminological theory, and social movements. She also has published research detailing the impact of female senators on the U.S. Senate’s institutional norms.
Her current research on deviant youth subcultures and the Czech dissident movement combines her interests in social movements and deviant behavior. Ms. King’s teaching interests also reflect her sociology and political science backgrounds. She teaches in the areas of justice and ethics, criminal behavior, judicial process, comparative criminal justice, and crimes against humanity.
