About Ayele Ulfata Gelan

My research interest lies in rural, regional and resource economics. I focus on rural-urban linkages and spatial aspects of rural development in developing economies. I employ economy-wide modelling techniques, including multi-market and computable general equilibrium approaches.
I am currently based in Nairobi, Kenya, as a researcher with the International Livestock Research Institute. My previous research posts include Research Fellow at the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute (Aberdeen, UK), Research Director at Tayside Economic Research Centre (University of Abertay Dundee, UK) and Assistant Economist at Ministry of Planning and Economic Development(Addis Ababa, Ethiopia). I obtained my BA in Economics (Addis Ababa University), MSc in Science and Technology Policy and PhD in Economics (both from Strathclyde University, UK).
