United Nations Peace Operations in Africa: A Cookie-Cutter Approach?

Abstract
This paper examines two most difficult peace missions in Africa - the ongoing United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the recently completed United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone - to determine the trajectory each has taken, and to identify the main internal and external variables that impeded timely progress in the peace operations.
