Abstract
General purpose computers have been in use since the 1940s, general-purpose programming languages emerged in the 1950s, and the first computer science degrees were awarded in the 1960s [2, 3, 5]. It is not surprising that the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE) was founded in the 1960s, and it celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2018. In this article, we discuss the current state of the SIGCSE organization and the directions we predict for its future.
