About Arlene Brett Gordon

Dr. Arlene Brett Gordon is the Director of NSU's Brief Therapy Institute (BTI). BTI houses both the Family Therapy Clinic and the Medical Family Therapy Clinic in the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her clinical practice has been greatly influenced by the work of Insoo Kim Berg and Steve de Shazer, the founders of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), who she met as a doctoral student in 1992. Dr. Gordon collaborated with Insoo on projects for over 15 years, providing SFBT trainings and consultations to community service agencies.

In 2016, Dr. Gordon and a team of doctoral therapists collaborated with representatives from the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine to establish a Medical Family Therapy (MedFT) clinic in NSU’s Ziff Medical Clinic. At the MedFT Clinic, clinicians provide therapeutic services to patients referred by their NSU’s physicians and residents. Dr. Gordon has participated on three of NSU’s Quality of Life Grants and one Chancellor’s Faculty Research and Development Grant on topics focusing on family members’ support for children or adults living with a chronic challenge. Teaches: Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Clinical Practice, and Supervision.
