Abstract

Alkaline phosphatase is widely distributed within and on the surface of mammalian cells and
exists in a number of tissue-specific isoenzyme forms [11. These isoenzymes exhibit varying
degrees of inhibition by amino acids (eg L-phenylalanine) in the concentration range 10-2-
10-3 M [2]. Little is known about the mechanism of phenylalanine inhibition except that it is
non-competitive and takes place at a site distant from the active centre.
