International Journal of Fashion Design, Technology and Education (2009)

Abstract
Sustainability is a strategic initiative in many companies and is especially important for apparel and textile companies because of the sustainability issues related to the production and rapid product change inherent in many textile goods designed for consumers. This article focuses on student perspectives and educators' efforts to prepare graduates to become agents of change. Today's millennial generation student and future professional has the power to change social, cultural, environmental, economic and political practices worldwide. A case study of the implementation of a unit focusing on sustainability in product development is included to facilitate broader incorporation of sustainability in the education of graduates from textiles and clothing and related programmes.
