Examining social relations between adolescent residents and tourists in an Italian coastal resortThe Journal of Tourism Studies
AbstractThis study examined the social relations between tourists and young residents of Positano, Italy. It found that interactions with tourists give rise to a range ofemotional and behaviouralresponses among adolescents ofthe coastal resort. Ofparticularinterest was the difference between the perceptions ofthose aged 13-15 years old and those aged 16-19 years old. The latter believed tourists to have a greater affect on their current lives and expressed a desire to move away from their home town. These findings are discussed in the context ofthe literature about the psychology of adolescence.
