About Anthony Stefanidis

Professor Stefanidis is the Director of the Data Science Program, the Special Advisor to the President for Research Partnerships, and a Professor of Data Science and Computer Science. His research interest are focusing on the geosocial analysis of social media and crowdsourced content, as well as the analysis of digital imagery and video. His research has been sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF), IARPA, the Department of Homeland Security, the Nation Geospatial-Information Agency (NGA), Draper Lab, and others, with total budget exceeding $20M, of which $1.1M were awarded since he joined W&M in 2021. For his scholastic and research achievements, he has received several national and international awards, most recent the 2023 Arthur Cracknell Award from the UK Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society, for a paper co-authored with is colleague Prof. Runfola, and PhD student Heather Baier. But his biggest achievement is building on our Data Science B.S. to help establish the very successful Data Science unit at William & Mary and expand its offerings (including a Graduate Certificate in Computer and Data Sciences, and the Data Science PhD track in Applied Science).
