About Anthony Gonzalez

Anthony Gonzalez interest began in medical school at the University of Miami where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha (highest honors) with Research Distinction.  Today he is Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Baptist Health South Florida and in his fifth term as elected Chief of Surgery at Baptist Hospital of Miami.
 
Dr. Gonzalez is a general surgeon with a specialty in laparoscopic, robotic and… More bariatric surgery. He has presented at national and international medical conferences on bariatric surgery, abdominal surgery, colon surgery and robotic surgery. He is a pioneer in robotic surgery with development of techniques in hernia and bariatric surgery, which have changed the way surgeons care for patients.  Dr. Gonzalez is the Founding Program Director of Baptist Health MIS/Bariatric Surgery Fellowship. Over the past 15 years surgeons spend a year’s time with him to learn advanced minimally invasive, robotic and bariatric surgery.

He has published in medical journals, including The Official Journal of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, Hernia and Journal of Obesity Surgery. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, Fellow of American College of Surgeons and Fellow of the American Society for Bariatric and Metabolic surgery.
 
Dr. Anthony M. Gonzalez believes in giving back to the community, not just in South Florida, but also to those less fortunate.  He serves as the medical director for The Living Hope Haiti Christian Mission.  With this mission he visits Haiti two to three times a year to perform up eighty pro bono surgeries in a four-day period.  Dr. Gonzalez has also done similar work in Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
