Classically, the purpose of education was understood as not just transferring knowledge or producing skills, but also fostering character growth. Rather than leave the topic of character exclusively to religion/ethics courses or non-academic settings, this presentations argues for its continued relevance in all teaching. This presentations shares techniques to integrate character promoting activities into introductory university mathematics courses by focusing on four areas: honesty, perseverance, growth, and faith. Discussion includes developing a grading philosophy that promotes perseverance, discipline-specific faith integration, and use of a course character statement.
