About Annette Madlock-Gatison

Dr. Annette Madlock Gatison is currently serving as Professor of Strategic and Personal Communication in the School of Communication and Digital Content at Liberty University.  Dr. MG as she is affectionately known comes to Liberty from Southern Connecticut State University where she was a tenured member of the faculty. A former IT professional in the areas of computer programming and database administration, Madlock Gatison completed her doctoral work in Communication and Culture at Howard University. She earned both her MA in Communication and a BA in Organizational Studies from Bethel University. Her transition from technology professional to educator and scholar was natural as she always played the role of translator between individuals and technology in corporate settings. Madlock Gatison is an award-winning author with over 36 publications and over 40 national and international professional presentations and workshops. Two of her publications include: Health Communication and Breast Cancer Among Black Women: Culture, Identity, Spirituality and Strength, Lexington Books, 2016; and Communicating Women's Health Social and Cultural Norms that Influence Health Decisions, Routledge, 2016. With two forthcoming books in the areas of womanist theology and the rhetoric of health communication, MG stays relevant in her field. Madlock Gatison has been recognized for her scholarship in the area of women’s health communication and advocacy. Dr. Madlock Gatison is currently investigating women’s work in organizations that support social justice and health activism. As an educator, scholar, and advocate she leads by example through her mentoring and volunteer work in the communities with which she is associated.
