Lecturer
Prior to joining the faculty at the Allard School of Law in 2016, Dr. Uteck practiced law for several years in Nova Scotia before commencing her teaching career. She began teaching at the SMU Sobey School of Business where she taught business and commercial law. From 2000-2005 Dr. Uteck was a faculty member at Dalhousie University Schulich School of Law where she taught Contracts, Secured and Commercial Transactions, Privacy Law and Law & Technology. During her time at Dalhousie, Dr. Uteck was a member of the Law & Technology Institute and the inter-disciplinary Master of Electronic Commerce programme. In two intensive spring sessions, as a Visiting Professor in the international graduate business law programme at Vrije University in Amsterdam she delivered courses in privacy and e-commerce law. From 2009-2016 Dr. Uteck taught at the University of Ottawa Law School teaching both first and upper year courses, including Contracts, Torts, and Secured Transactions. She also developed an upper year interdisciplinary seminar course, The Law of Everyware in which students examined topics and issues raised by emerging networked technologies.
Anne Uteck completed her doctorate on re-conceptualizing spatial privacy for the ‘Internet of Things’ during which time she was a SSHRC Doctoral Fellow, Gowlings Fellow in Technology Law and recipient of an Excellence Scholarship and Doctoral Research Scholarship from the University of Ottawa. Dr. Uteck continues to explore the issues raised by her doctoral work.
The trajectory of Dr. Uteck’s academic career has led to an intensive teaching focus, thriving in collaborative environments, fostering collegial and interactive learning.
