An article that first appeared in The Chicago Tribune last week about research by Assistant Professor of Anthropology Anna Corwin on “elder speak,” has been syndicated around the nation, appearing in the Sacramento Bee, and in outlets in Alabama, Kansas and Virginia. The story “Why baby-talking to your grandma is not OK,” includes an interview with Corwin and discusses her academic research on a manner of speaking with the elderly that is similar to the way people address small children or even pets. Corwin is a linguistic and psychological anthropologist who studies intersections between aging, embodiment, well-being, social interaction, and language.
