Abstract
Thanksgiving is right up there with the 4th of July as one of the most celebrated American holidays. Regardless of controversy about the real first Thanksgiving, the headaches that come with preparing a giant meal, or the news stories about shopping deaths on "Black Friday," people feel very strongly about the holiday - so strongly that historically, people have fought to keep Thanksgiving what it is and no amount of anti-obesity reporting will make us stop deep frying our turkeys. So what is it about this holiday that makes us so protective?
