About Andrew Sarangan

I am guided by the philosphy that truly useful innovation can only come after mastery of the art using all physical and intuitive senses. Far too much of science today is done while sitting at a desk without achieving mastery of the senses.
I believe in the ancient practice of master-apprenticeship method of training, complelety opposite of the current trends in massive open courses.
I practice a holistic approach to engineering research, which extends from theory and design to fabrication and commercialization. I strive to produce work that could improve peoples lives instead of simply adding to the archive of scientific knowledge that never gets used.
I consider mentoring to be my most important academic job. I go beyond simply advising students on their study and research. I attempt to motivate them and keep them energized by involving them in industry visits, grant proposals, conference travel and counseling. I encourage student initiatives, and support their endeavors.
