About Andrée J. Rathemacher

I am Professor and Head, Acquisitions in the University Libraries at the University of Rhode Island, where I administer the materials budget of over $4.7 million and am responsible for the purchase and licensing of library materials in all formats and the management of electronic resources.
In 2014-2015, I served on the University Libraries’ Ex Libris Implementation Team and am an Ex Libris Alma Certified Administrator.
An advocate of open access and scholarly communication reform, I chaired the University’s Ad-Hoc Committee on Open Access, playing an instrumental role in the passage of an open access policy by the University of Rhode Island faculty in 2013. From 2013-2015, I served as the first Faculty Senate Designate for the URI Open Access Policy. In 2013-2014 I initiated the creation of the URI Open Access Fund to support publication in open access journals, and I am the fund administrator. I advocate for the University Libraries’ support of collaborative open access initiatives including SCOAP3, Open Library of Humanities, Knowledge Unlatched, Luminos, Libraria, Open Book Publishers, ECS Plus, Reveal Digital, the Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Community Development, the Open Access Network, the Global Sustainability Coalition for Open Science Services (SCOSS), the DOAJ, ORCID, and OAPEN.
From 2013-2016 I was Vice-Chair then Co-Chair of the ACRL New England Chapter Scholarly Communications Interest Group. Currently I am a member of NISO’s KBART Standing Committee.
I am the Libraries’ subject selector and liaison for business, labor relations and human resources, economics, and environmental and natural resource economics. I have served on many University committees and am an active member of the University of Rhode Island chapter of the AAUP, where I have completed two terms on the Executive Committee and served as Treasurer and on the Negotiating Team; I currently chair the Grievance and Conflict Resolution Committee. For over ten years, I served on the Board of Trustees of the South Kingstown Public Library.
From 2003-2009 I was Head, Serials Unit / Electronic Resources Librarian, during which time I coordinated the conversion of the vast majority of the Libraries’ periodical subscriptions to online format. From 1995-2003 I held the position of Reference/ Bibliographer, Business and was active in developing the University Libraries’ highly regarded information literacy program. From 1997-2017 I was the University Libraries’ webmaster and co-webmaster.
