About Andrea Harrison, MS (PhD Candidate)

My name is Andrea, but I prefer to go by Drea. I am originally from Southern California, but I have been living in Minneapolis for the last 20 years. I always had plans to move back home to California, but Minnesota is like the mob. Every time I try to leave it makes me an offer I can’t refuse, such as a wonderful MN husband and now I am a mother to 3 MN daughters. So I am living the Minnesota life, with California dreams.

I am proud to say that I am a six-year breast cancer survivor, and it is because of my journey with cancer that I now find myself in this wonderfully rewarding career as an occupational therapy instructor. Previously, I had worked clinically for ten years, as an occupational therapist, on a locked adult mental health unit.

Currently, I am an Assistant Professor for St. Kate's and a Ph.D. online student in education (Post-secondary Adult Education). I also continue to supervise students participating in their fieldwork level II experience at a community based mental health facility. So I am still active, clinically, and I believe that this will enhance your academic experience because my examples are from what I have experienced and seen in my practice.
