About Andrea D. Clements

I am a Professor in the Department of Psychology at East Tennessee State University. My main areas of research are religiosity, health, and trauma responsiveness, particularly focusing on addiction. I have developed, delivered, and studied trainings for varied audiences around trauma-responsiveness, ACEs science, and resilience-building for the past several years. I am currently collaborating with clergy and researchers from ETSU, the University of Virginia, Duke University, and others from around the world to investigate a theological/neurobiological theory of addiction and treatment and test church-based applications of that theory in the areas of transportation and housing. I am also co-founder and board president of Uplift Appalachia, a nonprofit focused on mobilizing local churches to provide intensive connection for people who live with addictions. I also regularly mentor and teach others to mentor people who live with addiction and have been or currently are incarcerated.
