Abstract
Transliteracy emphasizes the use of all information resources for the purpose of meaningful consumption of information. According to Thomas et al. (2007), “[Transliteracy] is the ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms, tools and media from signing and orality through handwriting, print, TV, radio and film, to digital networks.” It is holistic in nature focusing on purposeful use of information using past, present, and future knowledge networks and repositories (Megwalu, 2014). It is a concept that many librarians are becoming familiar with as it helps students become analytical and develop transferable knowledge of using information from a multitude of information sources to satisfy their information needs. In this article, I share a situation where the concept of transliteracy is integrated into a reference instruction.
