Abstract
As scholarly publishers and university presses continue to consolidate their e-book strategies for the future, a number of ecologies have evolved, both on the consumer side and the institutional access side.

For small society publishers willing to adopt consumer models that have been successful in trade publishing, the retail ecology can provide new opportunities, as individual purchasers discover their content through online bookstores, journal hosting sites, and retailers like Apple, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. To play in this space, they need to make educated decisions about DRM, retailer markups, and payment processing.

For large commercial publishers and university presses, the greatest opportunity for e-book growth lies in institutional subscriptions.

An essential part of this ecology is the library and the requirements of its patrons. Recently, the City University of New York, one of the nation's largest urban public university systems, conducted an environmental scan of the e-book market, and then evaluated and selected e-book packages that best meet the needs of its diverse user community.

This seminar will cover issues and developments in channels for distribution and acquisition of e-books from both publishers and librarians' perspectives.
