About Amy Scharf

Amy Scharf has worked in the field of educational equity and diversity for more than 20 years. In addition to teaching at Saint Mary’s, she currently serves as Director of Faculty and Departmental Diversity Initiatives in the Division of Equity and Inclusion at UC Berkeley, where she leads the university’s equity and inclusion planning initiatives for academic departments, directs faculty diversity efforts, and facilitates workshops on a range of identity and diversity issues for faculty, staff and student audiences. Before taking on these roles, Amy spent 13 years in the non-profit sector, directing state and national training initiatives on cultural competence, multicultural and anti-bias education, and educational justice. She holds a PhD in Social and Cultural Studies from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education and is an experienced teacher, trainer, author, policy analyst and advocate. She deeply values multiple perspectives, collaborative inquiry, courageous conversation and shared leadership.
