Professor and Director of Field Education, Social Work Department
Dr. Amy Meyers is a Professor and Director of Field Education in the Department of Social Work. She teaches course on oppression and privilege, human behavior across the lifespan, issues in field education, and has an extensive background in clinical practice. She teaches from a culturally humble position and a lens towards the development of critical thinking and self-reflection. She models and educates on the relevance of self-discovery and personal development towards the path of professionalism.
Dr. Meyers has conducted extensive research on sibling relationships, particularly the long-term implications of emotional and physical sibling abuse on the development of interpersonal relationships. She is an expert in the field of sibling abuse and has published and presented nationally on the topic. She is an advisory board member to the University of New Hampshire's Sibling Aggression and Abuse Research and Advocacy Initiative at the Crimes against Children Research Center.
Dr. Meyers is the Co-President of the New York State Social Work Education Association and an advisory board member to Molloy University’s Siena Center for Social Justice.Dr. Meyers is very active with DEI initiatives and provides trainings and consultations. With 30 years of experience in clinical practice and trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, she maintains a diverse private practice in NYC.
