About Alvaro Castillo, MD, FACS

Dr. Castillo is a Board Certified General Surgeon with fellowship training in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. Dr. Castillo completed medical school at the Universidad Americana in Managua, Nicaragua and continued on to complete his surgical residency at the University of Miami. While in training at the University of Miami, Dr. Castillo was a member of the Transfusion Committee, Patient Safety Committee, Resident Evaluation Committee and received the prestigious Resident of the Year award, 2012. Dr. Castillo completed his Fellowship training in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. He also participated in a 2 year Human Investigation Program while in Oregon.

Dr. Castillo specializes in open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery for benign and malignant disease of the liver, pancreas, biliary tract, and gastrointestinal tract. He is also one of the leading hepatobiliary surgeons in Palm Beach County and South Florida region.

In addition to publishing and presenting numerous journal articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed publications and at medical meetings, he is a current member of the American Hepto-Pancreato-Biliary Association and teaching faculty for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
