Abstract

So the matter has been settled, at least for the near future — the Supreme Court has decided by a six to three ruling that the federal government is constitutionally permitted to impose a carbon pricing scheme.

Unless there is a sea-change, the will of the Supreme Court will prevail, the federal government will rejoice, and the provinces will reluctantly go along. Both federal and provincial governments will set aside their political bickering and conform to the dictates of constitutional law.
