About Alin Marius Andries

I am currently Assistant Professor at Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi. Starting August, 2013 I am also a SCIEX Postdoc Fellow at Swiss Institute of Banking and Finance s/bf-HSG, University of St.Gallen, Switzerland.
My primary research goals are directed toward understanding: the impact of structural reforms performed throughout the European Union (EU) accession process and enlargement process on banking performance, measured in terms of efficiency and total productivity growth and on competition and contestability of banking systems in both old and new member countries; the convergence of banking systems in new member states and EU candidate countries from Central and Eastern European countries; and the relationship between regulations, competition, efficiency and risk-taking.
During my postdoctoral studies made at Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, Romania and ICMA Centre, Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK, I examined empirically whether and how national regulations, such as restriction on activities and capital requirements, interact with banking competition and the risk-taking behavior of banks. This can have important policy implications as different types of regulation may have a direct or indirect impact (through market power) on bank risk-taking and also on financial stability.
My future research plans are aimed at to realize an study that investigates the relationship between competition and financial stability in the EU banking systems in order that to confirm if the idea of increasing competition in EU as a result of a single European market it fits with the issue of financial stability of the European financial system.
My ultimate aim is to extend my analysis from traditional banking systems to shadow banking systems and make a comparative analysis between depository financial institution and non-depository financial institution and analyze the impact of development of shadow banking systems and the current financial crises on banking systems from European Union.
