Abstract
In the Philippines, archaeological research has significantly intensified over the past 20 years and is producing useful insights into the Prehistory of this diverse archipelago that is of relevance for the entire region of Island Southeast Asia (ISEA). While research in the past has often focused on the concepts of migration of technologically advanced and agriculture-oriented groups through the Philippine archipelago and into the Pacific, there is growing evidence for complex interrelationship of pre-Neolithic societies, technological and ecological diversity, and the increasing adaptation to maritime environments already during the Pleistocene.
