The continual changes created by the activities of science, technology and innovation (STIA) and the rapid transformation of the society resulting from advances in research and development (R&D) and innovations in various areas of knowledge of these new developments are considered in methodologies for calculating the indicators. Therefore, the approach to measuring STIA and R&D indicators is not incompatible with present changes and updates that seek to adapt science, technology and innovation (STI) statistics to the new international standards and the varying needs of the society.
