Abstract

A surfacing probe, designed for studying the microstructure of the electrical conductivity in the surface layer of the ocean, is described; and the results of the first experiments with it are presented. The vertical conductivity profiles, obtained in the North Atlantic, showed the presence of conductivity pulsations near the surface during weak winds. Measurements in one of the Black Sea bays with river discharge have revealed a multilayer stratification in the upper 1-m layer.
