Reform or Revolution: Thoughts on Liberal and Radical Criminologies
Social Justice (2014)
  • Alessandro De Giorgi, San Jose State University
Abstract

The article revisits the debates that emerged in the University of California Berkeley class taught by Jonathan Simon and Tony Platt and suggests that significant contrasts remain between radical and liberal approaches. Topics discussed include comments on 3 elements of differentiation between radical and liberal criminology pertaining to the fields of genealogy, epistemology and political strategy and examples of the epistemological frictions between radial and liberal variants in criminology.
