Abstract
Lack of easy assessment tools has limited the frequency and quality of performance data provided to residents. We piloted a mobile application (SIMPL: System for Improving and Measuring Procedural Learning) developed by a multi-institutional research consortium (PLSC, http://www.procedurallearning.org). SIMPL has already been used in General and Plastic Surgery to measure residents' autonomy and performance. The aim of this pilot study was to: 1) evaluate SIMPL to optimize measurement of oral medicine faculty guidance and residents' performance and 2) quantify the degree of agreement for supervision and performance among faculty and oral medicine residents.
