Abstract
The events of January 6, 2021 shocked the nation. The assault on the Capitol was the most serious since the British burned the building in August of 1814, during the War of 1812.
The purpose of this paper is to determine what culpability those who engaged in, or supported, the mayhem might be liable to under federal law. This is not meant to be a definitive legal opinion, but it will review the various federal laws regarding treason, insurrection/rebellion, and seditious conspiracy and weigh their application to the instant case.
