About Alana Unfried

Dr. Alana Unfried is an Assistant Professor of Statistics at California State University, Monterey Bay. She received her PhD in Statistics from North Carolina State University. Her research interests center on statistics and data science education; she currently serves as Principal Investigator on an NSF-funded project to develop and validate instruments assessing student and instructor attitudes towards statistics and data science. She also enjoys collaborating with STEM and education faculty on studying K-12 student attitudes toward STEM. She recently served as the Chair of the MAA’s Special Interest Group on Statistics Education and also serves as Secretary for the Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences. Outside of work, Dr. Unfried spends most of her time chasing after her three young children, ideally outside while on a hike. She is also an avid reader and dabbles in playing the piano.
