About Alan M. Russell

Alan Russell is a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Iowa State University.  His areas of expertise are metallurgy and materials science with an emphasis on metal and composite processing.  His specific research interests include mechanical properties of transition group metals, alloys, and intermetallic compounds; mechanical properties of metal-matrix composites; stress corrosion cracking in steels; and processing and mechanical properties of metastable alloys.  He is the author of 108 refereed journal articles (h-index = 24; i10-index = 53), two books, five chapters in metallurgy reference books, and 43 non-refereed technical articles.  He is lead inventor or co-inventor on eight U.S. patents.  He has served as lead principal investigator or co-principal investigator on 70 research projects.  He has refereed technical articles for 32 materials science journals and has served as major professor for 13 Ph.D. students, 11 M.S. degree students, and seven post-doctoral research associates.
