Abstract
A detailed look at the candidacy of Alfred E. Smith, the first Catholic candidate from a major party (Democrat) to run for President of the United States (1928) from a New Jersey perspective to show how he was received within one of the most multi-cultural states in the Union. Various primary source materials and other relevant information leads were utilized to produce this work covering the political life of Smith and his relation to the Garden State.
