Abstract

This article discusses the personification of wisdom in the Biblical Old Testament Book of Proverbs, chapter 8, verses 22 through 31. It is compared to other, similar passages, and said to expand on the statement of Proverbs 3:19. Comparisons are made to Babylonian mythological traditions, as found in the Enuma Elish. The passage is also said to suggest allusions to Exodus 3:14 and Isaiah 48:16. Details and a discussion of the symbolism of personified wisdom are provided.
