Abstract
Two distinct areas of innovative architectural design research over the past two decades have focused on the usage of parametric design, and methods for improving environmental performance of buildings. Numerous studies of digital and parametric design strategies have been undertaken, however, few discuss potential overlaps between these two areas. This paper discusses methods for integrating parametric design with building performance analysis, specifically presenting tools and design methodologies that are suitable for facade design. A case study is used to demonstrate the integration of these tools and methods. The facade is one of the most significant contributors to the energy consumption and the comfort parameters of any building. Integration of parametric design methods and building performance analysis offers effective ways to address these aspects during the design process.
