About Dr Ahmed Mostafa Thabet

Dr Ahmed MostafaThabet PhD (UNSW), MSc (AU), BSc (AU)
Dr Ahmed is a Lecturer of Mechanical Engineering at School of Environment, Science and Engineering-Southern Cross University. Prior to this appointment, Dr Ahmed was Research Associate at University of New South Wales (UNSW-Canberra) at the Australian Defence Force Academy, Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department-Assiut University (AU) and have been appointed in many other academic positions. Dr Ahmed received his PhD from UNSW-Canberra in Aerospace Engineering and his Master and Bachelor degrees in Mechanical Engineering from AU.

Dr Ahmed research interests include mechanical characterization of wide range of composite and hybrid materials, finite element analysis of composite structures, design of aerospace structures, biomedical engineering, mechanical design and manufacturing systems. Dr Ahmed participated in two research projects that build on his interests in mechanical engineering. With the assistance of the external fund from Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Unit (TORU) at Canberra Hospital and UNSW-Canberra, he began his first research project about investigate the durability assessment of femur fracture repair with Supercables™ under cyclic loading. The second project was funded by Crimsafe Ltd. and UNSW-Canberra to study the structural mechanics of wire mesh and perforated-sheet security screens under dynamic load to align with the Australian safety standards. Cumulatively, these accomplishments represent an extension of his established research interests into a new area, indicating a continuing trajectory of research and publication in mechanical design and biomedical engineering.
Dr Ahmed has an active and continuing research agenda. Since he started his academic life, he has published 16 peer-reviewed articles, 1 review essay and 2 technical reports. He has presented 10 presentations at many national and international conferences, conducted manuscript reviews for some reputable journals and have applied for research grants. His research work has been recognized nationally and internationally which nominated him to receive many awards and prizes from many prestigious universities in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Egypt.

Dr Ahmed has successfully taught many large sections of undergraduate and postgraduate mechanical engineering difficult courses that satisfy both the needs of general engineering students and his own convictions about the field. He also supervised some undergraduate and postgraduate students in mechanical engineering. His engagement in his own research infuses his teaching and he regards his students as valued researchers with whom he has partnered in carrying out collaborative fieldwork.
