About Prof. KANG Munkyung Agnes

Prof. Agnes Kang received her PhD in linguistics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2000. She previously taught at the University of Hong Kong before joining Lingnan University in 2014.

Her interdisciplinary research focuses on areas of discourse and identity, including gender identity, and interactional sociolinguistics. She is currently collaborating (with Katherine Chen) on a series of papers on the “(Hong) Kong Girl” as part of her interest in gender ideologies circulating in media and new media. Her articles have appeared in Discourse and Society, Journal of Politeness Research, Pragmatics, and Journal of Sociolinguistics, among others, and she has contributed chapters to several volumes, including Femininity, Feminism and Gendered Discourse (Janet Holmes and Meredith Marra, eds.) and Beyond Yellow English: Toward a Linguistic Anthropology of Asian Pacific America (Angela Reyes and Adrienne Lo, eds.).
