About Agathe Guilloux

Prof. Agathe Guilloux is a Professor of Statistics in the Academic Affairs Department at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI).

Biography

Prior to joining MBZUAI, Guilloux was Head of the Mathematics Laboratory at Evry Paris Saclay University in France; comprising 45 full-time faculty and staff, supported by 15 postdocs and Ph.D. students. She was also a professor of statistics in the academic division where she founded and led the master’s program in data science.

Her current research activities include statistical learning and its application in the healthcare field. A key component of her work is to design mathematical algorithms to solve problems faced by physicians and researchers in personalized medicine.

She analyzes the relationship between input data such as clinical observations or measurements and patient outcomes and uses them to propose clinical prediction models. Guilloux’ work is mainly dedicated to learning from large real life (observational) and longitudinal data (especially electronic health records). She then works together with physicians on methods of optimizing the precision of the algorithms to improve their usefulness in predicting patients’ future health conditions.

She received her Ph.D. degree and two M.Sc. (mathematical statistics, and biostatistics and epidemiology) from Rennes 1 University and ENSAI. She previously held the positions of assistant professor and associate professor at Sorbonne University. As her career grew to encompass both teaching and research, she completed the Habilitation à diriger des recherches - the highest national diploma of higher education - requiring the supervision of Ph.D. students and applying for positions of professor and director of research.

Prof. Guilloux is on leave from Evry-Paris Saclay University. She is currently a research director at INRIA Paris.
