About Addisie Geremew

I am a highly motivated Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry specialist seeking to address issues in agricultural production and human health.

Global crop production is severely impacted by biotic and abiotic factors such as drought, salinity, and insect pests. However, plants’ response to such factors is a function of its genetic variation and plant-microbiota-interaction. Understanding the natural genetic variation and biochemical mechanisms that mediate plant interactions with these factors and how plant-microbiota-interactions regulate novel defense/resistance metabolite synthesis is a step forward for crop improvement. Also, omics and mass spectrometry-based screens to identify previously unknown plant metabolites, and characterization of biosynthetic enzymes have led to develop novel products beneficial to human health.

Our multidisciplinary research thrives to address the needs of diverse stakeholders’ ranging from local small-scale farmers (improving crop yield and breeding) to industries (product development) through integrating nano-biotechnology, ‘omics’ approaches and plant breeding.
