Description
This course is a survey of the African American experience from before Columbus until the present, focusing on what is now the United States. It will discuss the African American struggles for freedom and equality through periods of racial discrimination, the trans-Atlantic slave trade, enslavement, emancipation, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, Black life under segregation, the civil rights struggles, and continuing civil rights struggles in our time, including police reform, and reforming prison policies and drug laws.
