Abstract
Despite the reported growth of the tourism sector, very little is known of its economic importance or impact. This paper outlines a methodology to measure the contribution of visitors to a regional economy in west central Alberta Canada known as the Foothills Model Forest. We were able to estimate that the visitor sector represented 16.5% of the FMF economy. The data provided proved instrumental in the refinement of regional economic impact models.
