About Abdelilah Bouasria

Abdelilah Bouasria is currently a visiting professor of Arabic studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in California. He worked for three years as a journalist at Voice of America in Washington DC and one year as an Arabic teacher and a Spanish test developer at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. He authored two books, Mamlakat al Qaht (Kingdom of Drought Nadacom: 2006), a collection of short stories and folk poems and Master and Disciple: Authoritarianism or the other face of Islam (Authorhouse: 2007) which is an academic book about mysticism and politics in Morocco. He published several articles including “Couscous Democracy: Transitional Democracy in Morocco” (The Mediterranean Journal of Human Rights, University of Malta: 2007).
