Abstract

I received the invitation to speak at this year-long celebration of Irish Jewish connections while on the train from Dublin, just after attending the Trinity College conference “Reimagining the Jews of Ireland.” Several of us speaking there had recently published, or were writing, books or dissertations or articles in what rather suddenly seemed to be a coalescing field. Some of us had been at this work for decades, but for the first time we were together, seeing Irish Jewish studies not just as our personal topic, but a new discourse involving a wide range of scholars and disciplines. In many ways we spoke a common language that fore-grounded diaspora, identity, history, and memory.
