About Aaron Hoffman

Dr. Aaron Hoffman joins Olin from Boston University where he was an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow in the department of mathematics and statistics. He received his PhD in applied mathematics from Brown University, and he graduated with high honors from Swarthmore College with a major in mathematics and a minor in biology. Dr. Hoffman has also spent time at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, CA as a visiting postdoctoral scholar for the special semester on dynamical systems.
Dr Hoffman also maintains an active research program in infinite dimensional dynamics which focuses on the existence, stability, and interaction of coherent structures in spatially discrete systems. These coherent structures arise in diverse applications such as fronts in population ecology, interfaces in materials science, waves in fluid mechanical models, mechanical pulses in granular media, as well as electro-chemical pulses in nerve fibers.
