The Sexual Misconduct of the Clergy: An Interdisciplinary Analysis (Italian Translation)
(2022)
Abstract
In 2018, as reports of sexual misconduct by clergy in Chile, Honduras and the United States rocked the Catholic Church, an international meeting of experts in journalism, law, pastoral care and other fields such as philosophy was convened , psychology, sociology and theology, to study the incidence of sexual abuse of boys by clergy.

  • Part I (Challenges: Church Culture and the Social Sciences) explores data on clergy sexual abuse within the Catholic Church and also exposes the prevailing cultural myths that hide the roots of the problem.
  • Part II (Contributing Factors: Influences Outside and Inside the Church) situates the problem of clerical sexual abuse among surrounding issues, including the broader cultural roots of the abuse, Catholic organizational culture, and clericalism.
  • Part III (Consequences: Legal and Policy Issues) examines canon, criminal, and civil law by measuring their impact on the punishment and control of abuses.
  • Part IV (Charting the Course: Biblical, Theological, and Pastoral Reflections) identifies the Catholic roots of a true and lasting solution to the issue.
