About Zafar Fatmi

Dr Zafar Fatmi is an Associate Professor and Head Research Group Environmental and Occupational Health and Non-Communicable Diseases at the Department of Community Health Sciences (a public health department) of Aga Khan University Karachi, Pakistan. Dr Fatmi has done MBBS and fellowship in Community Medicine (FCPS) from Pakistan. He is doctoral candidate in the University of Southampton, UK. He holds an academic faculty position and is Director of post-graduate Community Medicine Residency Program at the University and supervises junior faculty members for research and academic activities. He is also a faculty Supervisor at College of Physicians & Surgeons, Pakistan. He also teaches Master in Science (MSc) students of Epidemiology & Biostatistics and Health Policy and Management. He has supervised 21 MSc and Postgraduate thesis (combined) for fellwoship. He is a leading scientist in Public Health and recognized as « Productive Scientist of Pakistan » by Ministry of Science and Technology. He is operating several large research grants from international sources. He has more than 70 peer-reviewed publications in international journals to his name and a book chapter (Megacities and Global Health) with American Public Health Association. He is also reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals. He has done research in health systems, and conducted evaluation of large scale projects related to reproductive and child health and currently focusing on environmental health research and teaching. He is also working as consultant for a project on Air Pollution monitoring and health effects in Makkah-Madina and Jeddah cities with King Abdul Aziz University, Saudi Arabia. He has collaborative research projects in Environmental and Public Health with various international universities including University of Alabama at Birmingham, US, Univeristy of Albany New York, Jichi Medical University, Japan, Asahikawa University, Japan.
