Kyan's research focuses on the cultural reception of Buddhist art in medieval China and its role in shaping Chinese identity. He teaches courses on the arts of China, Japan and the Silk Road. His courses are cross-listed with Asian Languages and Cultures. EDUCATION: B.A., Brown University; M.A. and Ph.D., University of Chicago Kyan has been teaching at Macalester since 2005.
