Dr. Wayne Howard is professor and Chair of the Agribusiness Department at Cal Poly,
San Luis Obispo. At Cal Poly he has taught farm management, rural appraisal and a
graduate class in agricultural development. Prior to coming to Cal Poly in 1999, Dr.
Howard spent 12 years at the University of Guelph, Canada, where he taught and studied
decision-making on the farm and in agribusiness. Specific projects included managing
people on the farm, managing multi-generation family farms, herd health issues and how to
prevent and resolve conflicts over farming practices. He has published 41 refereed
papers, six book chapters and over 60 reports and articles in trade publications. 

Dr. Howard’s work has taken him to Australia, Uganda, Kenya and China, and he has
consulted with a variety of governments and trade organizations. He has a Ph.D. from
Texas A&M, a M.S. from the University of Florida and a B.A. from Humboldt State.
